To Lift or Not to Lift?
The answer to that question is yes. There are many benefits that come from resistance training. The type of training you do depends on what you are looking to get out of the workout regimen you are doing. Are you looking to improve your mile time or are you looking to put on muscle mass and see some muscular definition? Endurance type athlete: Lifting weights is still something that should be done. The type of resistance training you do here should be muscular endurance t

Failure
Often when people hear the word failure the immediate thought is to the definition of “lack of success”, and to be honest I fall into this category. What we all forget is that failure also means “the action or state of not functioning”. This second definition is why I am writing this post. Today’s society puts so much emphasis on being “successful” that people feel inadequate and like “failures” for not meeting expectations laid out by societal norms, but what is success?

Freshmen (Quarantine??) 15
So, this post started out as advice on how to make better food choices during your time at college, since it is often a difficult transition to go from being under the watch of your parents to making decisions on basically everything on your own. Now with the presence of COVID-19 and the new ‘normal’ (is anyone else as tired of hearing that phrase as I am?), I decided I would make this a two-for-one kind of thing. The concept is pretty similar between the two. Going off to

What COVID-19 Has Taught Me Expanded Edition
Some of you may have seen my short post from about a month ago about COVID-19 and things it taught me. When I posted that social distancing and school closures had just occurred, so it was pretty early on in this crazy “new normal”. Now fast forward from that post to today, almost an entire month has passed, and I still stand by the things I said in that post, but I now have a little more to say. I will repost below what I said in my previous post as a refresher for y’all a

Self-Experimentation #1
Hello friends. Today I am sharing with you all my plant-based diet experience. For starters, I did this to give myself some experience with this diet prior to conducting a possible study that asks participants to partake in a plant-based diet intervention for a 4-week time period. I am an advocate of being your first client, especially when you are going to be asking someone to make a change to their lifestyle, you should be able to relate and pull from your own personal e

You and your diet were on a break!!!
First off if you get the reference from my post title then I love you. Second, this is me explaining why calling it a cheat meal/cheat day kinda makes me roll my eyes. Before I get started I just want to say that I’m still working on removing that phrase from my own lexicon, so I indeed roll my eyes at myself and I don’t want you people to think I am attacking you all and being holier-than-thou. Now with that disclaimer out of the way let me explain. The more people in the

Mental Health Awareness Month
Hello all! In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month here is my post on looking out for your mental health. Like I always say, wellness is more than just working out and eating ‘healthy food’, it is about your mental health as well. I wrote a previous post about mental health, and some of the things I like to do to help keep me sane. So I will hyperlink that here for you all to check out again. But I will also list some things you can do for yourself and for those you car

Get Moving
Newton’s First Law of Motion says “Every object persists in its state of rest or uniform motion in a straight line unless it is compelled to change that state by forces impressed on it”. Often this is heard stated as “An object at rest tends to stay at rest, and an object in motion tends to stay in motion”. While this is typically applied to physics and all that math and science associated with physics, this can be applied to exercise. It is so easy to turn your one day off

R&R
“Rest is for the weak” and “No days off” are just two examples of some things you may hear from your fitness fanatic friends or your rat-racing buddies. We unfortunately live in a society of go, go, go, and always trying to do more than the next person or not stopping until we reach our goal, only to decide we have another goal once we get there. We are constantly moving and doing and we are not taking a chance to stop and enjoy where we are. I want to keep this more geare

It has been a minute
It has been a minute since I’ve posted here!! I really didn’t have anything to share with you all, and nothing really motivated me to sit down and write. But now I am back and ready to share some thoughts with you lovely people. So my senior year of college started August 21 and I can now share with you all how I feel about being a senior. Let me start by saying that I still refuse to accept that this is actually happening; it doesn’t seem real that I am a senior. I reall

CrossFit pt.2
Okay, so I can’t share with you all anything about the test, but I can tell you about how awesome my weekend at the CF L2 course was. Just to let you guys know, I am super shy and I almost didn’t want to go to the course because I knew before going there I would have to coach in front of people I didn’t know and that is COMPLETELY out of my comfort zone. So that was my emotional/mental state entering into the weekend. I was forced to step WAY outside of my comfort zone and ho

CrossFit
So this Saturday is a pretty exciting one because I am at Reebok CrossFit One in Boston, Massachusetts for the CrossFit Level 2 certificate course. Almost 5 years ago I was sitting in the exact place completing the Level 1 certificate course. I was the youngest one there. I started doing CrossFit when I was in 8th grade(about 7 years ago) and I fell in love with it. It took less than a year of doing CrossFit for me to decide that one day I was going to open my own CrossFit af

Eat Your Plants
I don’t want to sound like your doctor during your yearly physical, but eating your fruits and vegetables is very important to living a healthy life. Last fall I took a very interesting class where I learned a lot about the powerful health benefits found in all plant foods(fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds). This class made me take a step back from my eating habits (which was already fairly healthy) and made me start to really think about what I was eating everyday. Eating ‘he

Shoutout Pinterest (Again)
So I was scrolling through Pinterest as usual and I came across this image: I really relate to this quote and thought this would be a good thing to share here. Sometimes it is hard to stay motivated to workout when you are comparing yourself to someone else. This is often my problem. I will feel unmotivated to workout or just not feel great about my workout because I am thinking it isn’t good enough compared to someone else. I know I shouldn’t compare myself to other peop

Documentaries!!
Sorry for being MIA! I was sick last Saturday, and the Saturday before that I spent the day at a CrossFit Comp and it slipped my mind to post, so sorry!! Since I last posted I watched some pretty interesting Netflix documentaries and I highly recommend you peeps check them out. ‘The Magic Pill’ and ‘In Defense of Food’ are the titles of the documentaries and if you like documentaries and like health and wellness things(which I am guessing you must a tiny bit because you are r

Just Some Reflection
I guess this post can be thrown into the mental health side of wellness. It really isn’t a post about particular food or fitness things, but a post with some personal reflection. This Wednesday(May 2) I took my last final exam of my junior year of college. It is crazy for me to think about heading into my senior year. Time is moving way too fast for my liking. I honestly feel like it was yesterday that I was moving into my beloved dorm for my freshmen year and now I am going

Pinterest is a Wonderful Thing
So the other day while procrastinating studying for final exams I was scrolling through my Pinterest and came across an awesome quote: I really love this because it is something that even I forget sometimes. I am guilty of forcing myself to exercise and workout when my body really needs to relax because I ate one too many candy bars or gummy bears or had an extra latte or too many mixed drinks. Exercise is supposed to be an outlet for stresses and an enjoyable activity. The m

Hello:)
Hello lovely people! I wasn’t sure what to share with y’all today when my apple watch so kindly informed me that I should get active tomorrow to celebrate Earth Day. So thank you to my apple watch for informing me that tomorrow is Earth Day and consequently giving me something to write about. Like I said in a previous post about wellness, that it is more than just working out and eating good foods. Wellness is about staying mentally healthy and what better way to keep your me
